FAQ
What is yoga?
The Sanksrit word “yoga” means “yoke” or “union”, as in to unite body, mind, breath and spirit.
What are the benefits of yoga?
Each individual who practices yoga will see different benefits, including increased strength, flexibility and coordination. Often times practitioners experience improved focus and mental clarity as well as better sleep, a better mind/body connection and an overall sense of well-being and improved health.
Who is yoga for?
The idea of “yoga” sometimes brings to mind hot, incense filled halls wherein yogis sit on rugs contemplating their navels. This is not what it takes to begin yoga. Yoga is for everyone; every age and fitness level. We welcome beginners and experienced practitioners alike, as there is always room to grow and progress.
What if I am not very flexible?
The goal of yoga is to create an ultimate state of balance in the body. Some people who come to class are very strong but inflexible, while others are flexible but not as strong. Ultimately, each student is working to create a balance between strength, flexibility, coordination and balance. Those who are not flexible benefit greatly from yoga classes.
What should I wear to class?
Comfortable, loose fitting clothing is best. Make sure that you are able to move freely and comfortably in what you choose to wear. No need to wear shoes or socks; yoga is practiced in bare feet.
What do I need to bring to class?
You can choose to bring your own mat, or we do have mats provided at the studio.
How should I prepare for class?
Drink plenty of water before and after class. It is recommended that you come to class on an empty stomach. Please arrive a few minutes early and be sure to leave your cell phone outside of the studio.
How often should I practice?
As often as possible, but a minimum of two or three days a week is recommended. Practicing once a week is better than nothing, but greater frequency increases balance, strength, and flexibility. Make yoga a priority and the rewards are infinite!
