The North American yoga craze is simple- You got it all wrong! Yoga is NOT! Sounds crazy but yes, it is that simple.
Yoga is not a wrokout, leggings competition, or instagram picture.Yoga is not about having the best handstand or even flow. Yoga has no 'Brand Name'. There is no actual 'image' of yoga. Now you're confused asking, 'okay, so...what is it?'
Yoga is the unraveling of everything you have ever been conditioned to believe. Breath is incorporated to create an optimal heart rate (yes to burn fat and build muscle) but also to rejuvenate muscles, and offer maximum oxygen to areas needed. The dance of self-love which flows on our mat is nothing short of beautiful. You see, one doesn't merely 'do' yoga. It is to be practiced regularily with the goal of perfecting, but never reaching it.
There's the ever elusive trifecta; mind+body+soul we've all heard of. What does that even mean? Equanimtiy! The ultimate mind+body+soul conscious balance. That is the goal of yoga. That is actually what the mord means too;) Every single time you come to your mat with the intention of attaining any type of equanimity your mind becomes washed of mental clutter, your ego shatters as you enter the studio doors and your body becomes a vehicle of power lovingly flowing through the dance of asana (postures). Your muscles, joints, tendons and fascia are massaged gently, like never before while legthening and strengthening simultaneously. Like a miracle, your ego is out of your way, and your true self shines through.
It is the main goal of life. Surrender, let go, be balanced in every aspect. Hence yoga is unbecoming everyhting you were told to be. Yoga is coming home to your true self.
